"There are no
secrets to registering your own Domain Name."
What
does it mean to "register" a domain name?
There is a central registry of all domain names on
the Internet. For your domain name to become a part of the registry, your domain
name needs to be added to that registry. "Registering" a domain name
means you are associated with that domain name for the period of the
registration. Only ICANN-approved Registrars have access to the database.
"Registering" a name means you own it, and no one else can register
that exact same name
How
long does the registration process take?
Our application process should only
take a few minutes to complete. All registrations take place in real time- once
your application has been processed and approved, your name is registered
Is
it possible for someone to register my domain name after I have registered it?
The availability of .com, .net and .org domain names is verified
through a central registry system. This system prevents a domain name that is
successfully registered from being registered by another person or entity. The
The registration and processing system updates the central registry in real
time. I
own a new domain, but when I type it into my browser, nothing comes up.
Again, a domain name is not a website, just a web address for a website. If
you want your new domain to be a web address for a website for your corporate or
personal use, you must contact a web design / hosting company i.e. szaroconsulting.com
Once we have a website ready for you, you can have your new domain hosted by our
servers. Contact your web host, and get their Domain Name Server Info (DNS
Info).
The domain will then transfer to your new web host in 24-48 hours. If you
already have a website, and registered a new domain for it, be aware that some
hosting companies do not accept a domain being hosted on their host servers.
Also, it may
take a few days for the routing to propagate to your new host on an acceptable
server.
Choosing a domain
name
You simply think up a domain name. Dot com,
dot org, dot net, dot info, whatever. If you can't think of a catchy name,
you can use YOUR name. After you've decided on a domain
name, you need to see if it's available for you to register. If a name has
already been registered, you'll be told as much. You can check on a name by
entering the domain name you'd like to use in the search box above: Registering a domain with
Szaro Consulting only costs you $20.00 for a year's registration. [2 years
min.]
The DNS entry is
like a street address
You need to know the DNS if you plan to use your domain name right away (DNS is
the acronym for Domain Name Server). Every web host has a DNS and IP address, in
primary and secondary flavors. Think of it as a street address.
The DNS name is simply a specific address of a computer somewhere on planet
earth. And the IP portion is just a number that represents the name you choose.
What does a DNS
look like?
The DNS address looks like this:
Primary DNS: NS1.REGISTRARS.COM
Primary IP: 209.52.165.100
Secondary DNS: NS2.REGISTRARS.COM
Secondary IP: 209.52.165.101
The numbers are the IP address "number
name" that corresponds to the real name part of the address.
Just like your house has a number on a street, so a domain has a number that
identifies the name.
The Primary DNS is the one that's
used most often. The Secondary DNS is used if the primary is busy. It's like a
safety net of sorts.
How to find out
who owns any domain
You can find all the domain information you can stomach at onewhois.com.
Addresses, phone numbers, etc. for the people who own the domain. Even their
e-mail addresses. And especially the DNS info we're talking about here.
You don't need all of
that info--it's just nice to know, especially when you're doing
research, or maybe you're just curious.
Parking your
domain is the easiest
Even if you don't know the DNS name or the IP numbers (the 209.52.165.100 part),
you can "park" your domain with the company you register with. You can
park your domain at Szaro Consulting for FREE. That's right, at no cost to
you, we will park your domain for FREE. Click here
